As you all have no doubt by now heard, Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar on May 2nd and was at its peak about 200+km/h. Anyways, it is estimated to have destroyed over 20% of the country .... (overly lar) and ALTHOUGH the official report is about 30-40,000 deaths, on the ground rescue and aid workers put it at about 100k+ (Tsunami was about 230+k victims) .
Why then, did the millitary government take SOO long to allow aid workers in and UNTIL now, still refuses to allow in most of the outside help offered... AND EVEN worse, the news this morning over the radio reported that good food and aid from outside help was stored into a military warehouse and those supplies were exchanged for what the officials described as "tasteless and low-quality" biscuits produced by the Industry Ministry to be handed out to cyclone victims... Only after immense international pressure, has the Junta government began to allow in foreign aid.
What do I have to say to this ? I wish I was a photojournalist, then I would have a chance to get in there to do a cover OR to China, which is another great place (And I do pity them too, particularly given that the large death toll in China's Sichuan quake are children... like the FUTURE of this great nation..).
Not being a pessismist or what, but I do believe that this greenhouse effect thing is going to give us somemore pretty grim news in the months to come, just hope that the Beijing Olympics goes on well in August 8th. And most importantly/ selfishly, Singapore is not severely affected. Btw... life sux cause thnx to Nargis, we now have another lesser supplier of rice in the world.... which I DEFINITELY believe will increase the price of rice further :( And then there is the rise of oil prices.... from $120+, and it will only go up to $130 and in a worse case even to $150 a barrel !... Infact, experts have even forecast a possible hike to $200 a barrel in the next 2 years or so ....
Then ofcourse, with the rise of crude oil, everything else will rise... (cost of tractor fuel up + cost of electricity up + other costs up = higher production costs = higher cost to final consumers (You and Mua) ) ... haiz... Is this the beginning of the Lord's long awaited arrival ? If He comes today, am I worthy of His prescence ... Chong Mar desu...
